EXPIRED is shown when the validity period of a document has ended. IVQA evaluates the dates at the moment of each scan: there is no nightly job that flips documents to expired, and nothing to schedule.

Where validity periods come from#

DocumentValidity
Student documents generated from a template (attendance certificate, transcript, internship certificate…)3 months from the issue date. This is a fixed IVQA rule; it cannot be changed per template or per institution.
Employee documentsThe effective from and valid until dates entered when the document is created, or later with Set validity period. Leaving the period unset means the document is always valid until revoked.
Company and institution documentsThe expiry date set in the document editor, if any.
Uploaded certificates and diplomasNo validity period by default.
Documents created through the API by the add-onsOnly the expiry_date sent with the request, if any.

What the verifier sees#

The red EXPIRED banner with the end date (This credential has expired on …). The holder's details are not shown.

A related status is NOT YET VALID: the document has an effective from date in the future. The banner shows that date.

What you can do#

  • Nothing is required if the document was meant to stop being valid — that is the purpose of the period.
  • For employee documents, you can extend the period from the Employee documents page (Set validity period). The change applies immediately to the public page.
  • For a student document, issue a new document for the student when a fresh attestation is needed. It receives a new public ID and a new QR code; the expired one stays expired. See Regenerate, reprint or renew a document.
